We brought three boxes of photographs and an old folder of papers to the first session of the Heritage Catalogue Programme. By the end of the four sessions, those materials were arranged in a catalogue our children can actually navigate. My mother, who is 81, spent a whole afternoon looking through it when we showed her.

The Family Timeline Workshop was a useful way to get the whole overview down on paper in one sitting. We managed to sketch out four generations in three hours, which I had been meaning to do for probably six or seven years. The printed timeline was delivered about four days later. One minor note — we ran slightly over time on the session, though the facilitator accommodated that without any issue.

The sessions were straightforward and the facilitator never overstepped the brief. The catalogue we produced over four sessions is something I intend to pass to my children when the time comes.

The workshop gave us a printed timeline document that we now keep in the family room. It covers five generations on my husband's side and three on mine. A few entries are still incomplete because we do not have the dates, but the facilitator showed us how to note those gaps clearly so the document still reads well without them. Practical and calm throughout.

The Heritage Catalogue Programme gave us a way to work through those materials carefully and produce something structured. The process helped the family as much as the catalogue itself did.

Three Detailed Household Journeys
Challenge
A family of four siblings wanted to create a shared record of their family's history before their eldest aunt, the primary keeper of family knowledge, relocated to Penang. They had a limited window — one afternoon — and no prior documentation of any kind.
Programme
The Family Timeline Workshop was scheduled for a Saturday morning with five family members present. The facilitator guided the group through a three-hour session that mapped names, dates, and locations from the 1920s through to the present across two family lines.
Outcome
A printed timeline covering four generations and eighty-seven individual entries was delivered four working days after the session. The aunt reviewed the draft remotely before it was finalised, adding three entries that had not come up during the session itself.
"We did it in one morning and now we have something we can all refer to. My daughter has already asked if she can have a copy when she moves out."
Challenge
A household in Damansara had accumulated three generations of family objects, including jewellery, handwoven textiles, and photographic prints from the 1950s, with no catalogue or labelling of any kind. Several objects had already been misidentified within the family.
Programme
The four-session Heritage Catalogue Programme was conducted over eight weeks. Sessions focused sequentially on photographs, documents, and objects, with a final session dedicated to arrangement and index construction.
Outcome
The printed catalogue covered 142 individual entries across photographs, documents, and objects, with photographs of each item and a short descriptive note. The household identified six previously unattributed photographs and correctly attributed them during session three.
"I did not expect the process itself to be so interesting. We came with a pile of things and left with a catalogue. The questions the facilitator asked along the way helped us remember things we had not thought about in years."
Challenge
A household with four children under twelve wanted a system that would stay current as the children grew — capturing school records, photographs, and family documents year by year — without requiring the parents to manage a complex system independently.
Programme
The Annual Records and Heritage Programme was engaged for 2024. The setup session established the records folder structure and initial catalogue. Three quarterly check-ins maintained both through the year's changes, and an annual review session closed the year in January 2025.
Outcome
At year end, the household held an updated records folder with 68 entries added during the year, and an updated heritage catalogue incorporating photographs and notes from each quarter. The household renewed the programme for 2025.
"The quarterly check-in takes about two hours and leaves us with everything sorted for the last three months. It has become part of how we run the household now."
